Keene City Councilors Lake, Williams and Workman wrote a letter in March, which led to the formation of the Keene Ad Hoc Housing Stability Committee. The councilors asked the city to explore innovative options including legal camping, overnight parking areas and more affordable housing options for people of low income.

For example, they can provide means for a community to acquire affordable housing. A group of Monadnock Region activists and officials are working to create such a fund. Their hope is to provide financial incentives for developers to build affordable housing for people earning less than 60 percent of the median household income for the region, which is $64,686 in Cheshire County, according to the most recent census.

Congratulations to Sandra Whippie who was instrumental in the founding of MIP, a Guiding Council chair, co-leader of the MIP Make a Difference training, and is now a part of the Clergy Team. Sandra’s leadership has helped MIP become the vital community resource it is today.

Extraordinary Women: Sandra Whippie
Sandra Whippie is an educator. Always has been, always — even at 86 years old — will be. Her range is all-encompassing, scholastically to ministerial, the arts to physical fitness. And she loves to dance.
